A simply supported reinforced concrete beam with an overhang is shown in the figure below. The beam supports a uniform dead load (DL) of 100 kN / m (including its own weight) and a uniform live load (LL) of 40 kN / m. The beam is also subjected to an uplift point load ( PL L ) of 500 kN, as shown in the figure.
