On this day in racing history on April 8, 1989... Sunday Silence romped in the G1 Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park for the legendary Charlie Whittingham with Patrick Valenzuela aboard! Sunday Silence went on to win the 115th running of the Kentucky Derby, the G1 Preakness Stakes and finished second to Easy Goer in the G1 Belmont Stakes.
