UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid in the EU. They give you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union. Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). Some EU citizens may be able to apply for a new UK-issued EHIC if they are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement. The type of card you have will depend on when you when you moved to Spain. Both cards cover you for medically necessary care when visiting another EU country, and all existing EHICs remain valid until their expiry date.
