Whilst at Beddgelert a few days ago we stopped to watch the Welsh Highland Railway pull away from the station. An interesting engine set up and I've I've not seen before. A steam engine with what looked like a smaller diesel booster engine up front. The terrain with it's inclines and decents dictate extra power Any engineer and enthusiast folk, please enlighten us as to the specifics of this amazing loco. It's safe to say, we'll be back there again before long to explore and take the train journ

On a wet windy day at Pits Head on the Welsh Highland Railway the K1 Garratt heads a train of South African wagons. The K1 was the first Beyer Garratt Patent locomotive built. After a working life in Tasmania it was bought back by Beyer Peacock as a monument. After the works closed it was purchased by the Ffestiniog Railway. | SiCol Transport Publishing
