Let’s be honest - outside of its native range, English ivy (Hedera helix) is a nightmare plant. It escapes from cultivation and makes its way into local woodlands, where it carpets the woodland floor and outcompetes the native vegetation growing there. It climbs up trees, adds weight to their branches, shades them out, and sometimes kills them. I’m tired of seeing woodlands of English ivy instead of our native spring ephemerals and other herbaceous plants.We have to stop buying and planting this
