The snow forecast may be somewhat up in the air, but one thing is for sure: Any snow that falls will not be melting next week.

As of Thursday, Jan. 16, Weather Service forecasts for central and Eastern North Carolina show two opportunities “for precipitation other than rain,” meteorologists’ way of saying it could be snow but don’t get too excited, it might be our old nemeses sleet or freezing rain.

On Sunday, there’s a chance of snow, but current forecasts indicate it could be light, the weather service said. “Even if it develops, the system will be rather weak and progressive, so snowfall totals and resulting impacts appear minor,” the weather service said in its Thursday morning forecast discussion.

And computer models were hinting Thursday that more significant snow is possible Sunday when the Eagles host the Los Angeles Rams in an NFL playoff game, to be followed by a vigorous cold spell as a Siberian air mass overtakes much of the nation, complete more snow chances.

There could be snow falling on Sunday when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round of the playoffs. The forecast is calling for frigid temperatures and possible snow when the two teams kick off at 3 p.

There will be snow for the Eagles game and it will arrive by the end of tailgating. It will still be snowing after the game and we will get a few inches of snow.
