Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have committed genocide over the course of the more than year-long civil war in Sudan, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Tuesday.

The Biden administration says the Rapid Support Forces rebel group in Sudan is committing genocide and announced new sanctions for the group’s leader and affiliated companies. It’s the latest escalation for Sudan which is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world right now.

Rebel forces in Sudan are committing genocide amid a war of “unmitigated brutality” and the world’s largest humanitarian catastrophe, the U.S. government said on January 7.

The US this week declared that members of one of the warring parties in Sudan's civil war - and its allied militias - have committed genocide in the African nation - which has seen tens of thousands of people killed in recent months and millions made homeless.

On January 7th Antony Blinken, America’s secretary of state, said that the Rapid Support Forces ( RSF ), a brutal paramilitary force fighting the SAF for control of Sudan, had committed genocide in the western region of Darfur.

The United States has accused Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and proxy militias of committing genocide in the Northeast African nation's nearly 2-year-old civil war.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed in months of fighting that has led to a famine.
