City of Portland workers represented by Oregon AFSCME Local 189 have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike.

The unionized employees are part of the city's water, transportation, police and permitting departments. Workers want higher pay.

The move, approved by 87% of members who voted, allows the union’s bargaining team to issue a 10-day strike notice to the city.
