Louisville basketball fell short to Kansas in the season-opening exhibition. What stood out and what we learned about the Cards.
No. 11 Louisville showed fight Friday night against No. 19 Kansas in exhibition action, but the Cardinals came up short.
Listen to what the head coach of the Cardinals, guard/forward J'Vonne Hadley and guard Ryan Conwell said after their exhibition loss over the Jayhawks:
The Louisville Cardinals faced the Kansas Jayhawks in a college basketball exhibition at the KFC Yum! Center. Here's the UofL score and highlights.
Kansas basketball’s first test was Friday, on the road at Louisville. Here is what happened during this exhibition matchup during the preseason.
Louisville got off to a slow start to the ranked showdown, missing their first five shots of the game to allow Kansas to take a 9-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Cardinals then countered with a 12-0 run of their own, taking a one-point lead just ahead of the second media timeout.
The 2024-25 Kansas Jayhawks made six or fewer 3-pointers in 15 of their 34 games. KU overhauled its roster in the offseason, and it could not have been clearer on Friday night, when top freshman recruit Darryn Peterson made six 3s — on his own — in the first half of the Jayhawks’ exhibition opener
LOUISVILLE – Behind 26 points from freshman sensation Darryn Peterson, No.19 Kansas defeated No.11 Louisville, 90-82, Friday evening in exhibition play at the KFC Yum! Center. More than 25 NBA scouts came to mainly see Peterson and he did not let them down in his unofficial KU debut.
The effortless nature of Peterson’s game Friday was reminiscent of NBA superstar Kevin Durant’s lone season at Texas. At halftime he’d shot a staggering 6-for-9 (66%) from 3-point range. He had a much quieter second half, making just one shot in four attempts.
No. 19/19 Kansas will face No. 10/11 Louisville in exhibition play on Friday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. CT at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The contest will be televised on the ACC Network with Dave O’Brien and Seth Greenberg calling the action.
