As the threat of severe thunderstorms and potential tornadoes lingers over parts of the Great Plains and Louisiana on May 7, forecasters warned that excessive rainfall could lead to additional flash flooding that has already turned deadly in Texas.

At 4:49 a.m., the doppler radar indicated thunderstorms were producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 4 and 8 inches of rain have fallen in the Acadiana area. An additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are possible through the rest of Wednesday.

In particular, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Lake Charles have a slight risk of severe thunderstorms developing late Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Such storms could bring wind gusts over 58 mph, an isolated tornado or hail. The rest of the area, including New Orleans, has a marginal threat of severe storms.
