Hurricane Melissa made its second landfall early Wednesday morning near Chivirico, Cuba, as a Category 3 storm with winds of 120 mph.

The hurricane brought heavy rain, widespread flooding and winds close to 100 miles an hour to the central and southeast Bahamas.

Its intensity at landfall appeared to tie an all-time Atlantic Basin record. But the devastation in Jamaica wasn't all Melissa brought to the Caribbean. Here is our recap of this historic hurricane.

Hurricane Melissa is barreling northeast toward the Bahamas, after leaving a trail of destruction across Jamaica and the eastern side of Cuba.

After weakening to a Category 1 hurricane after its passage across the rugged terrain of eastern Cuba, by Wednesday afternoon Melissa was recovering over the waters around the speckled islands of the southeastern Bahamas.

Melissa is now traveling over Cuba, with strong, violent winds and extreme rainfall. Up to 16 inches of rain is possible for eastern Cuba.

Melissa made its first landfall on Tuesday in southwest Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 hurricane with 185 mph winds. The hurricane center said Melissa was a Category 2 storm on Wednesday morning as it prepared to emerge off the northern coast of Cuba and into the southwestern Atlantic.
