Like Frontier, the current Top500 record holder, Aurora was built by Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. But it features processors from Intel Corp. rather than AMD.
AMD powers the ultra-fast Frontier supercomputer with its Instinct MI250X AI accelerators, achieving a huge 1 trillion parameter LLM run, which rivals ChatGPT-4.
Frontier also boasts 37,888 Instinct MI250X accelerators. So between the CPUs and GPUs, the supercomputer has access 8,730,112 cores, with a power efficiency rating of 52.23 gigaflops per watt.
