Members of Montreal’s Muslim community launched the seventh edition of Muslim Awareness week, which runs from January 24 to 31. The goal is to build bridges with other Quebecers.
It was supposed to be a relatively quiet start to the week for the Ottawa Senators, and they had certainly earned it. The Senators are in third place in the Atlantic Division and finally had a day off after playing 10 games in 16 days.
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action against Islamophobia:
Only one bullet hole remains in the wall of the Centre culturel islamique de Québec, 8 years after a gunman stormed into the mosque and killed six Muslim men who had come to pray.
The weather may be in the single digits but there’s skating, vintage luxury shops, an ice hotel, a jazz bar to cozy up in. Not to mention tobogganing down a track at 45 mph.
Senators owner Michael Andlauer confirmed at a press conference in Quebec City on Monday that his club will spend four or five days in the area next fall as part of their training camp in September and host two exhibition games at the Videotron Centre.
The Senators will play two preseason games this fall at Quebec City's Videotron Centre, a rink built to attract an NHL franchise someday.
Quebec City is hoping to see the introduction of more refrigerated skating rinks as warmer winters risk impacting outdoor hockey.
The NHL will be back in Quebec City as the Ottawa Senators plan to play the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils during the pre-season.
Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer believes Quebec City should get an NHL team. It just won't be the one he owns."Quebec deserves, in my opinion, an NHL team, but that will not be on my file," Andlauer said,
While Quebec City longs for the return of professional hockey, locals will have the opportunity to take in the NHL next fall when the Videotron Centre plays host to a pair of Ottawa Senators‘ exhibition contests.
