Over a third of US states are set to raise their minimum hourly wage in 2026, but worker advocates including Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday decried a federal minimum wage that’s remained at $7.25 since 2009 — and just $2.13 an hour for tipped workers for over three decades.
Starting in 2027, increases to the state minimum wage will be linked to inflation. The increases will be determined by the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers for the Northeast region — a regional measure of inflation.
Colorado is one of 19 states set to raise its hourly minimum in 2026, with some municipalities reaching more than twice the federal minimum. Beginning Jan. 1, the statewide minimum wage will be $15.16
Florida’s minimum wage will rise to $15 an hour in 2026 as the result of a constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2020. Florida’s current minimum wage is $14 an hour. The increase will go into effect on Sept. 30 and will be the state's last scheduled minimum wage increase.
