When Donkey Kong Bananza was first announced, speculation immediately set in that it was being made by the same team that made Super Mario Odyssey. That turned out to be true, but we've since learned that speculation the game began as a Super Mario Odyssey sequel are not.

Kenta Motokura, who was the director of Super Mario Odyssey has been revealed as one of the game’s producers. Donkey Kong Bananza is being directed by Kazuya Takahashi. Takahashi joined Nintendo in 2020, having previously worked on other open world titles.
