The signature victory could not have come at a better time for South, which had not beaten any team other than Campus since 2020. After opponents outscored the 2024 Cougars by an average margin of 46-11, they have closed that gap this year to 33-24, including single-digit losses to Maize South (38-35), Valley Center (29-23) and Goddard (34-27).
Salina South defeats Liberal for a 3rd straight time and improves to 3-7. Liberal finishes 7-3 for a second straight year.

Salina South traveled to Andover High School for a matchup with the 3 seed Andover Trojans, winners of six straight games. Salina South, the 14 seed, entered the night 1-7 on the season with three one possession losses.
With 16 teams in each class left in the Kansas high school football playoffs, it’s time to update the state-wide rankings.
Great Bend plays Newton Friday Great Bend (8-0) will welcome Newton (0-8) Friday for the first round of the 5A state football playoffs. The Panthers are outscoring teams 461/2 to 11, averaging 190 yards passing and 177 yards rushing per game.
Both teams exchanged turnovers in the third quarter, the Cougars fumbled inside the 5-yard line and Liberal quarterback Tevin Cotter threw his 10th interception of the season. But, neither team scored directly off them, so South got the football back with a chance to take a two-score lead.
