The Chiefs have called off the proverbial dogs. After making a fourth-down stop, Kansas City inserted quarterback Gardner Minshew into the game for mop-up work with eight seconds left in the third quarter. Minshew spent last season with the Raiders, going 2-7 in nine starts.

Normally, the last thing you want to see is your Survivor pick sending the backup quarterback in. Relying on Gardner Minshew is almost never the plan. On Sunday, Minshew was already in for Patrick Mahomes before the end of the third quarter.

Commanders defensive lineman Jer’Zhan “Johnny” Newton got his hands on Mahomes with roughly six minutes left in the fourth quarter. Officials quickly called unnecessary roughness, giving the Chiefs an automatic first down and drawing Aikman’s ire on the “Monday Night Football” broadcast.
