Longtime academic Santa Ono has been rejected for the University of Florida presidency by the state university system board

Mori Hosseini is standing by the decision to select Dr. Santa Ono to be the next UF president, following his rejection this week by the state board.

The name of the alleged attacker was withheld in the report under Florida law. "We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative process," a Florida spokesperson said in a statement to the Sun.

Almost a decade ago, state lawmakers set out to make Florida more competitive against the nation’s best-ranked public universities by injecting millions of taxpayer dollars into the state’s universities. Their mission was to boost the reputation of Florida as a place to get a first-class college education.
