CENTURION: Tilak Varma hit a maiden international century as India beat South Africa by 11 runs in the third Twenty20 International here at the SuperSport Park on Wednesday. The 22-year-old left-hander smashed an unbeaten 107 off 56 balls in an Indian total of 219-6.

Tilak Varma who smashed a century against South Africa in the 3rd T20I at the Centurion said that it was he who had gone to skipper Suryakumar Yadav and asked to bat at No.3 instead of his regular position at No.4. “In Gqeberha, he (Tilak) came to my room and said, ‘Give me the opportunity to bat at No. 3. Let me express myself’,” Surya said.

Tilak Varma was the star performer from the Indian camp in the third T20I played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion on Wednesday.

Tilak Varma became the second youngest Indian player to score a century in a men's T20I in a scintillating individual performance against South Africa.

Speaking about the match and about his physical state after hitting the ground with his head on attempting a catch, Tilak said, “I am okay. It was a difficult chance but I am happy we won the game. I cannot put it in words. It was my dream to play for the country and the hundred came at the right time when the team needed it.”
