The Senate on Monday morning began a "vote-a-rama" on proposed amendments to President Donald Trump's megabill for his second term priorities.It comes after a rare weekend session for senators, which included a dramatic 51-49 procedural vote on Saturday night to advance the massive tax and immigration bill and a forced reading of the 940-page bill by Democrats.

More than 40 million people relied on the food-assistance program in 2024, or about 12% of the population. Many are located in red districts represented by legislators who support gutting the aid.

The Senate is holding a marathon amendment voting session Monday after Republicans advanced President Donald Trump's legislative agenda over the weekend. A final vote on the bill is not expected anytime soon.
