Former Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter caused a minor stir after the NFL Draft by suggesting that he would be interested in wearing jersey No. 56 for the New York Giants. That's the retired number of former Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor, arguably the greatest defensive player in NFL history.

Abdul Carter was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and is expected to lead the New York Giants’ defense to new heights. The Penn State product was the best pure defender in the draft, and arguably the top overall prospect.

Lawrence Taylor would chase down quarterbacks and ball-carriers with relentless fury. He’s the owner of two Super Bowl rings and was the National Football League’s Most Valuable Player in 1986. He was an obvious first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer.
