Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Cuba this morning as an "extremely dangerous" Category 3 hurricane, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Hurricane Melissa has strengthened to a Category 5 storm and is expected to produce catastrophic floods and heavy infrastructure damage in Jamaica.

'This can become a true humanitarian crisis very quickly, and there is likely going to be the need for a lot of international support,' Porter said in a phone interview.
