Savard, 34, is currently set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024-25 NHL season. With The Athletic's Pierre Lebrun recently reporting that the Canadiens aren't interested in an extension, it's more likely than not that the veteran defender will be moved ahead of the March 7 trade deadline .

The team announced 30 minutes before puck drop that winger Patrik Laine (flu-like symptoms) and defenceman David Savard (upper-body) will not play. Laine has boosted the Habs’ offence since returning from injury.
