"While touring the Florida Keys we looked at places of interest to visit and we spotted the Dolphin Research Centre in Grassy Key on the way down to Marathon and decided to visit it. It cost $36 each. Given the name of the venue we looked forward to seeing and hearing about the research and education focussing on the dolphins and possibly hearing about release back into the wild where they should be. Unfortunately, and sadly, we were directed from the shop/ticket area outside to the various enclosed pens which contained various numbers of dolphins and informed of the “performances schedule”. To our shock and sadness we witnessed these beautiful and intelligent creatures being used to ‘pull’ paying visitors around the enclosure, those people holding onto its dorsal fin. Shockingly we witnessed a paint brush being placed in the dolphin’s mouth and then coaxed and instructed to make a splurge of paint onto a blank canvas. This was then handed to the awaiting child and offered as a ‘memory’ of their visit. What a memory! I would like to know how this treatment of the dolphins can be described as research and education. The dolphins were exploited as circus performers and with the hand signal from a ’trainer’ they impersonated sharks, lay on their sides and ’waved’ goodbye to the audience and performed ‘tricks’. A final, sad impression as we left was the sight of a male dolphin lying on its side in a pen clicking and communicating with a female dolphin in the adjoining pen, unable to swim together as they were individually enclosed. All of this taking place with the beautiful backdrop of the open Gulf which is where these beautiful and intelligent creatures should be."

"This is a huge scam.It costs almost five hundred dollars US to go and take pictures with the dolphins. 225 US just to inter inside the water with the dolphins. We wasn't allowed to move or touch the dolphin.Any time we have to wait to let us know when to do so.My son was screaming, they didn't care. It's a huge scam. We're not allowed to use our phone. We have to pay over a 160 US dollar for photos. It's scam!!!"

"After loving their experience not long ago, our son and daughter-in-law gifted us a swim with the dolphins. It was wonderful and breathtaking beyond expectation. In fact, my husband and I left feeling that we'd had a surreal adventure. The entire staff demonstrated such genuine affection for the dolphins, and the care they provide at Dolphin Life is clearly top notch. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and very kind in accommodating us (as I'm not a confident swimmer). But, no surprise, huge applause must go to the beautiful creatures themselves - Mom Jessica and son Jet - who gave us what felt like a once in a lifetime experience. They could not have been more gentle, playful, smart, and fun-loving. IMHO, Dolphin Life is a must visit in Key Largo. And even if you don't have the opportunity to swim with these beautiful creatures in this natural habitat, the educational component of a visit and getting to watch and touch the dolphins (even if you're not in the water with them) is well worth it. Dolphin Life enables a respectful encounter that is not to be missed."
